“This is now going to be our flagship location in Alberta,” beamed Victoria Sopik, Co-founder and CEO of Kids & Company.
On Tuesday, November 15, guests from ONE Properties and Katz Group, Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG) and the City of Edmonton gathered on the fourth floor of the newly opened Edmonton Tower to welcome the latest tenant in ICE District — Kids & Company.
“A city that’s built for all ages.”
Kids & Company is a family-oriented Canadian company, providing progressive child care options for full-time, part-time and emergency back-up care for families. Whether you are working, visiting or touring ICE District, Kids & Company offers flexible childcare options for all families.
“What’s important for us is to help families balance their lives. So of course being a part of this ‘live, work, play’ project [identified by ICE District] is a perfect fit for us,” added Sopik.
Projected as the largest mixed-use sports and entertainment district in Canada, ICE District offers a revitalized energy for those working, living and soaking up the entertainment offered in downtown Edmonton. Further to that, the city aims to create a welcoming atmosphere downtown for all ages.
“Edmonton is a flexible place and a destination place. When you know you can come from different cities and drop your kids off in a safe place — like Kids & Company — it just makes things easier, more accessible and more friendly for the traveler or the business worker that comes to Edmonton,” said Bill Scott, OEG Assistant to the President of Hockey Operations and Director of Salary Cap Management.
“This is an opportunity for downtown Edmonton to become a more child-friendly place,” added Edmonton City Councillor Bev Esslinger. “We want a city that’s built for all ages.”
From day-to-day childcare for those living or working downtown, to those needing flexible childcare while attending an event or business meeting in the downtown core, Kid & Company offers a variety of services for families.
“They provide travel options, they provide date nights, they provide all sorts of services for the community that we’re building,” said Hilary Lumme, Vice President, Property Management, Operations and Leasing for Katz Group Real Estate.
In addition to Kids & Company, the 27-storey tower — being built to LEED Gold standards — will also act as the new home for The City of Edmonton.
“We hope to have this building fully occupied by the middle of 2017,” added Lumme.
Edmonton’s rapidly changing skyline doesn’t stop there.
West of the Edmonton Tower, the construction of the Stantec Tower, Public Plaza and JW Marriot continues to progress, reaching a new height everyday.
“The Stantec Tower will be fully occupied when it opens towards the end of 2018, beginning of 2019,” said Lumme.
“Then we’ve got the JW Marriot, which will be opening in January of 2019 and the Legends Condominiums will be opening a few months after that.”
Now, with child care at its foundation, ICE District and the City of Edmonton are excited to begin to welcome those of all ages to a newly revitalized and rapidly developing downtown core.
